Champagne might get all the celebration credit, but that doesn’t mean that it is the only option available to pop during joyous times. From California sparkling wine to Spanish bubbly to French and Italian sparkling wine to Australian sekt. These are some sparkling wine variations that can be used to substitute champagne and with some great reason!
These sparkling wines are produced in many areas of the world but are known as different names in different regions. Prosecco is an Italian sparkling wine made in the Veneto region and is made from the glera grape. Prosecco is produced by the Charmat method, where the second fermentation takes place in large stainless steel tanks and not in the bottles (like Champagne). It results in a fizzy, fruity and affordable sparkler.
Cava is another sparkling wine which, much like champagne, undergoes its fermentation in bottles. This sparkler is majorly produced in Catalonia and is made with different varieties of grape: Parellada, Macabeo and Xarel-lo. Sekt is the german variation for the sparkling wine. It is made from many varieties of grapes like Riesling, Silvaner, Pinot Gris, and Pinot Blanc.
These sparklers make for a great aperitif and are incredible party starts as well. We give you a list of different sparkling wines for you to choose from so you don’t have to! Thank us later!
